Gameplay shots of Forever Blue and Disaster: Day of Crisis

When Nintendo showcased a reel of Wii games, Disaster: Day of Crisis stood out. The thirty second clip has a giant tidal wave crashing down on a city, an erupting volcano and concept art of the unnamed hero. It was different from the cheery Nintendo characters in Mario Party and the concept was solid even if Irem has been using it in their Zettaizetsumei Toshi series. Jeux France posted up a screenshot of the game in play and it is far from impressive. Monolith Soft, known for the cinematic Xenogears and deep Baten Kaitos series, is developing the game and their other titles are pure eye candy. Disaster: Day of Crisis… not so much. On the plus side Disaster: Day of Crisis is still in development and this early screenshot might not be a representation of the final game. The real question is how is Nintendo going to recreate “surviving nature”? Some of the gameplay scenarios in Disaster: Day of Crisis include driving down a mountain, dodging buildings while in the middle of an Earthquake and swimming to save their lives from a flood.

Forever Blue is another interesting Wii game developed by Arika who made the underwater Everblue games and Street Fighter EX. Forever Blue is related to the Everblue series, but the screenshot is missing the HUD in Everblue 2 which had information on how much air the player had and a gauge to show how deep in the ocean you traveled.

Are these graphics considered “acceptable”? And if they aren’t are you willing to forsake eye candy for gameplay?
