Bandai Namco has launched Galaga: Tekken Edition around the world on iOS and Android for free in celebration of Tekken’s 20th anniversary. You can download it on the App Store and Google Play.
It replaces the spaceships and insectoid aliens of the classic arcade shooter Galaga with Tekken characters. Among the playable ones are Heihachi Mishima, Lili, and Tekken 7’s Claudio Serafino. There are more playable characters to unlock, too, which may include more of the upcoming Tekken 7’s roster of new faces.
Each of the characters have their own shooting style. Heihachi throws a headbutt, while Lili has rapid fire, and Claudio has a penetrating shot. It’s also possible to merge character to perform tag team attacks. The enemies that you shoot are just as varied, with King commanding an army of wrestlers, and trios of characters scrolling down at you including Bob, Ganryu and, Jack, as well as Xiaoyu, Panda, and Alisa. It all leads up to a typical final showdown against the Mishima Family in true Tekken style.
Even the power-ups have been given a makeover, with old-school characters from Bandai Namco’s past appearing: one of them being Pac-Man, who takes up half the screen and chomps across it, eating up all of the enemies.
