Front Mission 2089 dramatized for the Nintendo DS

fmbom.jpgIt’s no secret Front Mission 2089: Border of Madness originated as a cell phone game. Since Square Enix already has a Front Mission engine running on the Nintendo DS they could lazily port the ketai game data over and call it a day. However, the development team is making changes to Front Mission 2089 other than adding touch screen control. Front Mission 2089: Border of Madness will have different stage maps, alternate scenarios and dramatic event sequences. Front Mission 2089: Border of Madness will utilize new character art and splice it into event scenes. Because of this change Front Mission 2089: Border of Madness is being coined as a dramatic simulation RPG opposed to a plain old simulation RPG.

While these revisions may be lost on North America if the game gets localized it’s nice to see Square Enix adding new content to their first cell phone to Nintendo DS port. Hopefully, this won’t be their last either. Before Crisis: Final Fantasy VII, The 3rd Birthday and Final Fantasy IV: The After would also make great portable games.
