There’s a way to get a shot a (temporarily) free Overwatch. It’s a Nintendo Switch Online subscriber-exclusive benefit, though. Nintendo announced both in Japan and in North America that Activision and Blizzard’s shooter will be the next Nintendo Switch Online free trial. (Nintendo of Europe hasn’t confirmed anything yet.) Everything kicks off on October 13, 2020.
Here’s how the whole offer works. If you are an active member, then between October 13-20, 2020, you can enjoy the opportunity to experience free Overwatch matches. You just download the game from the eShop as usual, though typically the icon will show up on your Switch’s home screen anyway. It even makes a save file for you, which will be maintained after the offer is up and can be used in the main game. After the experience ends on October 20, 2020, you’re locked out and need to buy the game to keep playing.
This is the second month in a row where a third-party game has been offered as the Nintendo Switch Online game trial title. In September 2020, Disgaea 5 Complete was the temporary freebie.
Overwatch is available on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. While this trial will offer a free Overwatch copy for people to play for a while in Japan and North America, buying the full game will give people extra skins and a code for three months of Nintendo Switch Online.
