Stay at home! That’s the running theme of Spring 2020, for obvious reasons. Companies are helping out as much as they can by doing things like releasing movies earlier digitally, and it’s starting to go better than weird promotional emails. So while you may be tired of hotels you’ve stayed in once letting you know how many extra times their underpaid staff has to spray down counter tops, this news is a bit more tangible. Some publishers and developers are offering free games, and if you redeem them quickly, you get to keep them forever.
Leading the charge is Square Enix, which is already hosting various sales across different platforms. But starting March 20, 2020, you can hop over to Steam (or the official Square Enix Store) and get both Tomb Raider (2013) and Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris. They’re only free until March 23, 2020, but if you snag them now, you get to keep them. Other games found on Steam that are free to keep are being compiled in a Reddit thread and include Drawful 2, Deiland, Pleasure Puzzle Portrait, and Headsnatchers.
Steam isn’t the only platform with free stuff for this unfortunate occasion. Good Old Games is offering a list of games for free on a landing page dedicated to reminding people to stay home. Itch.io,a platform primarily dedicated to small indies, also has a “Games to help you stay inside” page.
