Pastagames has revealed the “Nostalgia Mode” for its upcoming intense arcade game for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita, Pix the Cat, which is coming out on October 7th.
First off, you need to know what Pix the Cat is before getting onto the Nostalgia Mode. You play the titular cat as it tries to save ducklings inside the nested levels of the Grid of Infinity.
It’s a bit like Pac-Man, in a way, except that the levels constantly spiral into each other, zooming further and further into micro-levels. Imagine an arcade game version of a Russian doll, basically.
By dodging all the hazards and collecting a long conga line of ducklings, you’ll speed and power up, eventually unlocking Frenzy Time, which turns the game into a hectic disco for a limited time. The game has plenty of other surprises, too, as well as the Combat Arena where you can take on friends.
Now, the Nostalgia Mode hearkens back to ragtime musicals, turning the entire game black-and-white, with Pix and other characters being drawn in the style of old-timey 1920s cartoons. They even have exaggerated expressions for different situations, contorting their faces just like a cartoon character.
Pix the Cat will be coming to PS4 and PS Vita on October 7th in the US, while Europe gets it a day later on October 8th. You can find out more about it on its website.
