Versus Evil has released the first screenshots of Redacted Studio’s upcoming action game sequel Afro Samurai 2: Revenge of Kuma.
Whereas Namco Bandai’s 2009 take on the manga had you playing as Afro, Revenge of Kuma has you playing as Kuma, and with that comes a number of changes.
For starters, you’re able to switch through different fighting styles on Kuma’s electronic chip – for those who don’t know, Kuma is Afro’s cyborg brother. Kuma’s default fighting style is very offensive and good for taking down enemies quickly, whereas if you load up Afro’s more defensive fighting style you’re better off letting enemies swing first and then striking back at them.
Another big change is that the attacks are all mapped to a single button. The 2009 game gave you three attack buttons to string together a number of different combos, but according to project lead David Robinson – who led the 2009 game and has reprised the role for the sequel – people struggled to get on with that three-button set-up. Hence, he’s switched attacks to a single button, and allows variation through the chip system.
Afro Samurai 2: Revenge of Kuma will be coming to PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One soon. More screenshots are below.
