Here’s an unexpected surprise to kick off your Thursday. Nintendo announced it is localizing is localizing the original Fire Emblem NES game. Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light is headed to the Nintendo Switch. It will launch on December 4, 2020 for $5.99. The product page is now open, a trailer is online, and there’s even a physical Anniversary Edition in the works. However, people will only be able to download and buy the game until March 31, 2021.
First, here’s the trailer. It shows off the localization for the game. Which, as a reminder, is being translated into English for the first time. Also, this isn’t a straightforward release. There will be 50 playable characters and 20 classes, and the Switch version will also let you create bookmark save states, fast forward, or rewind turns.
At the end, you can see the Fire Emblem Anniversary Edition honoring its 30th birthday. It comes with an art book, a Nintendo Power collectible, a clear Game Pak replica with sleeve, a download copy of the game, a replica box, an instruction manual, and a map.
Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light originally appeared on the Famicom in Japan. It will come to the Nintendo Switch on December 4, 2020. The Switch version will be available to download until March 31, 2021. The original game was remade for both the Super Famicom and the Nintendo DS as Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem and Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon, respectively. The Super Famicom version was never released outside of Japan, but the DS game was released worldwide.
