Final Fantasy XVI Might Get a Day One Patch or DLC

When Final Fantasy XVI launches, people might not also need to download a day one patch for it. Game Informer learned from Director Hiroshi Takai that one isn’t planned for the RPG. While things could change closer to its June 2023 debut, it might not end up being necessary. Game Informer also learned from Takai and Producer Naoki Yoshida that the team isn’t working on Final Fantasy XVI DLC yet. Yoshida noted, “First we want to see if Valisthea and Clive are really things players around the world want to see more of and then make that decision.” [Thanks, Game Informer!]

When Takai spoke to Game Informer’s Wesley LeBlanc, he noted that Creative Business Unit III continually conducted Q&A play sessions. As a result, he noted that the team feels the game may not require a patch right away.

As for the Final Fantasy XVI DLC possibility, while Yoshida made a statement to the outlet that “we always want to consider DLC,” he also noted, “it’s a one-off game.”

As a reminder, this wouldn’t be the only fairly recent Final Fantasy release that didn’t also involve a day one patch or immediate DLC plans. Final Fantasy VII Remake didn’t get its 1.01 patch until October 2020. It launched in April 2020, as a reminder. That game also didn’t get its Episode Intermission DLC until the Intergrade version showed up.

Final Fantasy XIV will appear on the PlayStation 5 on June 22, 2023. A demo will appear as well. Square Enix confirmed there is a six-month PS5 exclusivity period.
