Square Enix recently released new concept art of one of the game’s most notable enemies thus far: the Catoblepas. If you’ve played the Final Fantasy XV Episode Duscae demo, you’ve more than likely seen the enormous creatures standing out in the marshy area, lumbering through the water with their huge feet and great swaying necks.
Perhaps you have even slain one of the beasts in battle. But what goes into designing such a fantastical creature? Here’s what the Final Fantasy XV official Twitter account had to say in regards to the concept and design of the Catoblepas:
Catoblepas– a monster that is so massive and creepy that makes it quite a stretch for it to feel although it could exist in the real world!
Art Designer Chihiro Hashi believes that the power of the concept art and collaboration of the creative team make the Catoblepas believable!
This monster is huge, so we dedicated our efforts on the design on the highly visible face and leg sections!
Final Fantasy XV is currently in development for the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One.
