Final Fantasy XIV Shadowbringers 5.3 patch will be delayed due to the situation regarding COVID-19. The news broke from the official Final Fantasy XIV Lodestone website. Producer Naoki Yoshida said that this is due to multiple factors, all of which involve the coronavirus pandemic. Due to the lock down in numerous countries, there will be a delayed delivery of graphical assets, delayed voice recording, delays to development related tasks, and lastly production and QA teams will be operating below normal capacity due to work from home limitations.
Yoshida mentioned that due to the reasons stated above, Final Fantasy XIV Shadowbringers patch 5.3 will be delayed. This patch was originally intended to release sometime mid-June. The team is currently unsure if this delay will simply be a few weeks, or will be closer to a month. The producer asked for understanding regarding this development and also mentioned that despite this, the Final Fantasy XIV servers will be maintained remotely.
This news comes one day after a Square Enix Tokyo HQ staff member tested positive for COVID-19. However, as of April 8, 2020 all Square Enix employees began working from home. This was in response to Japan declaring a state of emergency earlier this week. Square Enix employees will be working remotely until May 6, 2020.
