Shinra Technologies, a cloud gaming company that’s different from Square Enix’s recently closed Dive In service, is running a stress test in North America. The technical beta test will have games including Final Fantasy VII, Tomb Raider (the 2013 reboot), Deus Ex: Human Revolution, and Hitman: Absolution available to play in the Kansas metropolitan area. All Google Fiber subscribers will be able to play for free.
While Shinra Technologies can stream retail games, the company plans on utilizing cloud computing to create new types of games. Space Sweeper, which is also playable during the technical beta, is a twin stick shooter where each screen is part of a massive MMO-scale world. The Living World, a tech demo with 16,000 of dragons flying in a 32 km by 32 km, is also available to see. The Living World is run on one of Shinra Technologies’ supercomputers which holds over one million trees in memory while calculating terrain deformation and procedurally-generated fluid physics in real time.
If you’re in the Kansas City metropolitan area you can sign up for the beta here.
