Final Fantasy VI came out on April 2nd 1994. Yep, it’s now 21-years-old. To celebrate that fact, vocalist Jillian Aversa and cellist Tina Guo (who has worked on Journey, Diablo III, and Call of Duty: Black Ops II) created an operatic tribute to the game.
The result of their collaboration is the music video above. It’s "Aria di Mezzo Carattere," as originally composed by Nobuo Uematsu for Final Fantasy VI, with more operatic elements added.
Aversa began this arrangement in collaboration with her husband, Andrew Aversa, for the Final Fantasy VI: Balance & Ruin project as part of OverClocked ReMix. "We added more orchestral elements when I started performing the piece with Video Games Live, so I was thrilled at the opportunity to record with the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra for our latest album, Video Games Live: Level 4," said Aversa.
Aversa has previously done musical tributes to The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, and Destiny. She also has many live performances of other videogame songs on her YouTube account.
