The star of this week’s U.S. digital downloads on Nintendo systems is Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest (800 points) on the Virtual Console. Unlike other Final Fantasy games, Mystic Quest is designed to be more accessible from the get-go and does away with random battles, equipping items, and exploration.

Instead, you travel along set paths that you can’t stray from until the game lets you. In place of a regular turn-based battle system, Mystic Quest lets you use weapons while running around the world and you even have the ability to jump. When you come across an enemy, you can initiate a battle, which then takes you to the battle screen, complete with different commands, but even here, you’re allowed to use an AI-controlled ally if you wish.

Other notable games this week include Happy Holidays Halloween (500 points) on WiiWare, which you can use to design a Halloween card to send to your friends over Nintendo’s online service and Academy: Tic-Tac-Toe (200 points) on DSiWare, which increases the size of the Tic-Tac-Toe board to a 9×9 square.
