Square Enix revealed details for the upcoming test of the Cross-Region Data Center Travel system for FFXIV. The test is set to take place starting March 21, 2024, and it will last until the launch of update 7.0 and the Dawntrail expansion in Summer 2024.

Currently, players are able to travel to different servers within the same region-locked data center (North America, Europe, etc.), but the upcoming test will allow players to temporarily play on servers in other regions. Specifically, it will allow players from the Japanese, North American, and European data centers to travel to servers in the Oceania data center, though Oceanian players will not be able to travel the other way.

As with any MMO expansion launch, Square Enix is expecting heavy traffic when Dawntrail drops later in 2024. So the company is using this cross-region test period to try out a way to spread the load from congested servers to less populated ones.

Microsoft also recently unveiled an FFXIV themed Xbox Series X, sculpted to look like the aetheryte crystals found in game. Meanwhile, Square Enix has started selling items from previous years’ Hatching-tide and Little Ladies’ Day celebrations on the FFXIV online store.

The Final Fantasy XIV Cross-Region will begin on Sunday March 14, 2024, and last until the launch of update 7.0 and the Dawntrail expansion in Summer, 2024. FFXIV is immediately available for PC, PS4, and PS5, with the Xbox Series X version set to arrive on March 21, 2024.
