FFVIII Remastered went mobile, as Square Enix released Android and Apple iOS ports of the game. It is immediately available on both the App Store and Google Play. There is also a temporary discount in effect. While the game will normally cost $20.99, it will be $16.99 until March 25, 2021.
The product pages for both versions of the game go over some of the elements present. It is pretty much identical to the 2019 console and PC release. People will have access to the 3x speed ability, which lets you increase battle and movement speeds, you can use Battle Assist to max out your ATB, health, and limit break gauges, and you can turn random battles off. The company did warn that 3x speed can make certain areas difficult to manage.
There are two elements that aren’t present in the FFVIII Remastered mobile ports yet. First is that you can’t use cloud saves to back up your progress. Also, only virtual controls are available at the moment. Eventually, people will be able to use controllers too. There is also a glitch that could get characters stuck after leaving vehicles and would require you to reload a saved game.
Here’s the launch trailer for the FFVIII Remastered Android and iOS versions.
FFVIII Remastered is available on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and both Android and iOS devices.
