FFVII Remake Episode Yuffie Is the Only Planned DLC

FFVII Remake DLC

In a new Famitsu interview with Director Tetsuya Nomura, he revealed that the planned Yuffie side-story for Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, the PS5 edition of FFVII Remake, is the only planned DLC for the game.

According to Nomura, the original intention behind FFVII Remake Intergrade wasn’t to create new DLC for the game, but to make a proper PS5 edition of the RPG. It just so happened that the additional content was significant enough to highlight as an add-on with the label of “DLC.” Beyond that, the focus of development is currently directed towards transitioning to the full sequel, which means there are no plans at the moment for additional content.

Nomura also revealed a few more details about characters and systems players will encounter while playing through the Yuffie episode. Sonon, Yuffie’s companion, is also from Wutai, but works as an Avalanche operative. His armor and character design blend Asian elements (like samurai-style shoulder and arm protectors) with military-style clothing. Players will only control Yuffie during the DLC, but can call on Sonon by pressing the L2 button to change his “Linkage” mode. Changing the Linkage mode can alter Sonon’s behavior in combat, shifting between free action and a mode that actively tries to coordinate with Yuffie. The FFVII Remake Intergrade DLC will also feature new materia and summons, but the new content won’t be added into the base game.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is due out for PlayStation 5 on June 10, 2021. The upgrade to the PS5 version will be free for owners of the PS4 edition, though they’ll have to pay separately for the Yuffie episode.
