Keisuke Kikuchi, the producer of Koei Tecmo’s Fatal Frame series, discussed the prospects of a new sequel in the series in a new interview with Famitsu. His hope is that the performance of the upcoming ports of Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water can help greenlight development for a new title in the franchise. [Thanks, Ryokutya.]
Famitsu asked Kikuchi about the possibility of a new Fatal Frame sequel being made based on reactions from the series’ reboot. Kikuchi responded with the following answer:
“I hope so. This time we are providing [the Maiden of Black Water ports] as a 20th-anniversary project. This becomes an opportunity for many players to play it, and we really want to connect it to the next title.”
In the interview, Kikuchi also mentioned adding more platforms because he wants even more players to try out the title. Koei Tecmo initially released Maiden of Black Water exclusively for Wii U. The upcoming remaster will come not only to the Switch but also to PlayStation, Xbox, and PC platforms. The new ports will have a new costume from Gust’s Atelier Ryza in place of the Zero Suit Samus and Princess Zelda costumes that appeared in the Wii U version.
Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water will be available for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC via Steam on October 28, 2021.
