Fantasy Life Is A New Series For Level 5

Level 5 recently released their latest RPG, Fantasy Life, for the Nintendo 3DS, and it’s been selling out in Japan. While they try to get more copies onto store shelves, Level 5 are also thinking about the next game in the series.

Yes, Fantasy Life, unsurprisingly, is going to be an ongoing franchise. The news comes from Famitsu magazine (via: Game Jouhou), who asked a bunch of Japanese developers and publishers what their plans for the year ahead are.

Most developers gave the usual answers you would expect—expanding their brands, challenging new ideas and so on—but Level 5 specifically mentioned Fantasy Life, saying that they intend for it to be the first game in a larger series.

Given the success of the RPG and simulation genres on the Nintendo 3DS, it makes sense that Level 5 see greater potential in Fantasy Life. It should be interesting to see whether they add social features to the next game, given that such features have led to Animal Crossing: New Leaf being a breakout hit.

Other games that have found immense success due to communication elements in Japan are Dragon Quest IX and Tomodachi Collection on the Nintendo DS, the Monster Hunter series on PSP and 3DS, and of course, Pokémon.

Level 5 also added that they aim to find success in other areas of gaming as well, such as social games and smartphone titles.
