Fan Discovers the Old PlayStation Store Website Still Works

old playstation store website still works

SilicaAndPina created a Firefox a plug-in that lets fans use the old PlayStation store website. Users can regain access to the legacy storefront to purchase games on old hardware using Mozilla Firefox. Sony’s current browser-based store only allows users to buy PS4 and PS5 titles. The previous website had PSP, PS Vita, and PS3 games. [Thanks, TheChrisGlass!]

Using a new browser plug-in on Mozilla Firefox called “Valkyrie PS Store,” players can access the fully functional storefront. That means buying PS3 and PS Vita games, as well. SilicaAndPina explained in the below video that once he realized Sony’s chihiro API was still accessible, it got him thinking. It turns out that Sony didn’t kill the old website so much as it removed some HTML files to prevent access to the API. Using the Wayback Machine and archive.org, SilicaAndPina was able to launch the old PlayStation store website on Firefox.

Here is SilicaAndPina’s video showing how to use it. The creator of the plugin is known for work on PlayStation system workarounds.

The PlayStation Store has been a hot topic over the past several months. The browser-based website received several updates in preparation for the PS5’s launch, including killing and reintroducing the wishlist feature. In March 2021, Sony removed the ability to purchase PS3, PS Vita, and PSP games on its web-based store. Additionally, the company announced it would shut down the prior mentioned stores. However, most recently, Sony reversed its decision to close the PS3 and PS Vita stores for now. Unfortunately, the PSP store will still shut down on July 2, 2021.

Editor’s Note: This article originally included improper attribution to the correct creator of the plug-in. It has since been rectified.
