Memory Of A Broken Dimension sends you deep inside a black-and-white glitchscape to figure your way through it. It’s a puzzle world but one with an awe-inspiring visual attack and architecture that is both deceptive, unpredictable, and broken.
The idea in this fiction is that the RELICS virtual desktop – the emulator of an obscure research software – has escaped onto the internet. You head inside it, trespassing into “the ruins of a fragmented world, suspended within a frozen data stream.”
It’s been in development for a few years now and, after having been Greelit in 2014, should be on its way out for PC later this year. Recently, its developer who goes by the name XRA, uploaded the game’s prototype so you can give it a look for free. You can also pre-order the full game if you choose to pay $20 through itch.io.
“The prototype has a start and end, the average first-time playthrough tends to be 30 to 60 minutes. It’s also pretty old (2012) and not very representative of where the project is currently,” writes XRA. You can see screenshots from the full game below but it’s best seen in motion if possible.
