Final Fantasy XIV is dropping two new jobs per usual for fans to check out in the upcoming fifth expansion, Dawntrail. The FFXIV Pictomancer and Viper jobs are quite different from past ones, so here is everything we know about them following the 2023 and 2024 Fan Fests.

Everything we know about the new FFXIV Pictomancer job

The new Disciple of Magic job class is the Pictomancer. The FFXIV Pictomancer is the latest ranged magical class. It joins the existing trio of Black Mage, Summoner, and Red Mage. It takes inspiration from the original class of the same name from Final Fantasy VI and involves a magical artist who creates spells and effects from their imagination using their paintbrush weapon.

The Pictomancer is a DPS class, so it has a focus on ranged damage. However, we also know it will have some support elements at the same time. This could indicate it may have healing or even resurrection capabilities, similar to Red Mage. Alternatively, it could have some buff mechanics similar to Dancer.

Players will be able to unlock the Pictomancer job at level 80. The only requirement is they must have an existing level 80 job and visit Gridania to start it there upon the expansion’s release. In addition to the player being able to use Pictomancer, Scions of the Seventh Dawn member Krile will also take the profession up.

Everything we know about the new Viper job

The FFXIV Viper job, on the other hand, is the new Disciple of War. Yes, both of the jobs this time around are DPS classes. The Viper is a melee DPS user who shares gear with Ninja. The Viper has various skills, which allow it to dual-wield swords and even bring them together for a double-bladed weapon.

With the name Viper, it seems like there could be some poison or serpent-like qualities to this job as well, but that remains to be seen. Like the Pictomancer, Viper starts out at level 80 and has no base class. Players have the same requirements of needing a level 80 or higher job and the new expansion. Once Dawntrail drops, players can head to Ul’dah to start Viper.

Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail will release for the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC in Summer 2024. FFXIV is available on the PS4, PS5, and PC now.
