Following the massive success of DOOM(2016) and DOOM: Eternal, Bethesda and id Software unveiled a third entry in the reboot franchise. Here’s everything we know so far about DOOM: The Dark Ages, including its story, weapons types, release date, and platforms.
Is DOOM: The Dark Ages a sequel?
No, DOOM: The Dark Ages is a prequel to both DOOM (2016) and DOOM Eternal. The third entry is set in a medieval dark fantasy world. Players will shoot their way through hordes of demons as they find out the origins of the Doom Slayer. The trailer shown at the Xbox Games Showcase 2024 gives a glimpse at the type of demons you slaughter as Doom Slayer aids a war-torn kingdom.
Weapons Revealed So Far
Doom Slayer boasts his iconic shotgun in addition to new weapons to freshen up combat. He now carries a chainsaw shield named the Shield Saw. The Shield Saw can be revved up and thrown to mow down multiple enemies. This shield can also block incoming enemy fire while parrying enemies that get too close. With his shield raised, he can charge forward in a rush attack. If his shotgun isn’t enough, the trailer showcases more weapons that Doom Slayer can utilize.
True to the medieval setting, Doom Slayer now has access to a Flail(a mace with a chain) that pulls him towards demons. He also has access to a gun that grinds skulls to fire a spread shot. Battle towering demons in the Atlan mech suit for the first time. Players will be able to take to the skies in a Mech Dragon and fly at high speeds, firing at enemies at a distance.
