The latest game in the Eve series visual novels, Eve: Rebirth Terror, is headed to Nintendo Switch via the eShop on February 27, 2020. The game released last year on the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita.
Eve: Rebirth Terror takes place one year after the Burst Error case that was the main plot of Eve: Burst Error, the first game in the series. Both protagonists from Eve: Burst Error, Kojiro Amagi and Marina Hojo, return. The Amagi Detective Agency has once again fallen onto hard times, and private detective Kojiro Amagi spends his days in dull tedium solving simple cases. Meanwhile, Marina Hojo is on work break due to feeling burnt out after a certain incident. However, soon both protagonists find themselves wrapped up in two separate cases that might be more intertwined than they might think.
The first game was the brainchild of scenario writer Hiroyuki Kanno, who also created YU-NO: A Girl Who Chants Love at the Bounds of This World. Eve: Burst Error was one of the earliest visual novels with multiple protagonist POVs, each chasing after a different aspect of the mystery. Events from both sides would intertwine and affect each other, and players eventually would need to deduce the true culprit using the info gained from both sides of the story, and help lead the story to the good ending.
Since the first game, the Eve series has gotten multiple sequels, with some having famous writers at the helm. Eve: The Lost One on Sega Saturn was written by Kazuki Sakurada (under her penname Sakurada Yamada), who would later write the Gosick series; while Eve: New Generation on PS2 was written by Ever17 and Zero Escape writer Kotaro Uchikoshi. Eve: Rebirth Terror is written by Tsuyokiss writer Kasa Sakaki, who once said that Eve: Birth Error was one of his biggest influences on his life.
Eve: Rebirth Terror will release digitally on the Nintendo Switch via the eShop on February 27, 2020. The game is immediately available in Japan on the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita.
