Evangelion and Jujutsu Kaisen Nominated for Japan Academy Film Prize

Evangelion 3.0+1.01: Thrice Upon a Time and Jujutsu Kaisen 0: The Movie are two of the top five animated films in the 45th Japan Academy Film Prize. All five titles win the Excellent Animation of the Year awards for the year, but they are also contesting for the Best Animation of the Year award. The Japan Academy Film Prize Association will announce the award winner on March 11, 2022.

The final movie in the Rebuild of Evangelion series broke multiple records in the Japanese box office. This included a total grossing amount that surpassed 10 billion yen by July 2021. While Evangelion grossed 3.3 billion yen during its launch week, Jujutsu Kaisen 0 outpaced it by reaching 5.8 billion yen just eleven days after its debut in theaters on December 24, 2021.

In the 44th Japan Academy Film Prize held in 2021, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Mugen Train won the Best Animation of the Year award. It bested Violet Evergarden: The Movie and Stand by Me Doraemon 2, which were part of the nominee list in the same year.

Jujutsu Kaisen 0 is currently available to watch in Japanese theaters. However, it does not have a Western release date yet. Meanwhile, Evangelion 3.0+1.01: Thrice Upon a Time is immediately available worldwide via Amazon Prime Video.
