Khara has published an update to Evangelion 3.0+1.0: Thrice Upon a Time‘s box-office revenue through the franchise’s official Twitter account after the Golden Week holidays ended on May 5, 2021. With over 8.28 billion yen recorded, Evangelion 3.0+1.0 is now Hideaki Anno’s top grossing movie throughout his directing career. [Thanks, Game Watch!]
Just 59 days from its Japanese launch, Evangelion 3.0+1.0 has grossed 8,282,298,700 yen (~$75.87 million) with 5,423,475 tickets sold. Before this announcement, Hideaki Anno’s top grossing movie was the 2016 live-action title Shin Godzilla. Its final revenue number recorded at 8.25 billion yen.
The previous time Khara updated Evangelion 3.0+1.0‘s revenue was on April 19, 2021, when it surpassed 5 million viewers with nearly 7.8 billion yen in revenue. 17 days after the last announcement, the movie added almost 483 million yen with around 335 thousand tickets. The 2012 prequel movie, Evangelion 3.0: You Can (Not) Redo, only managed to gross a total of 5.3 billion yen with 3.82 million tickets.
Evangelion 3.0+1.0: Thrice Upon a Time launched in Japanese theaters on March 8, 2021. Khara has still yet to confirm an international release for this anime movie. More action figures related to the title have been revealed in recent days, such as a Farmer Rei Ayanami figure from Kaiyodo and an Evangelion Prototype Unit-00 mecha figure from Threezero.
