Khara’s latest weekly update for the Evangelion 3.0+1.0 box office revenue revealed that the anime movie has grossed almost 10 billion yen. It will soon fulfill Hideaki Anno’s aspiration to see the movie reach the major milestone. [Thanks, Game Watch!]
Evangelion 3.0+1.0 has been available in Japan since March 8, 2021. As of July 11, 2021, the movie has made 9.997 billion yen (~$90.71 million), with over 6.54 million tickets sold. Another boost to revenue came during the weekend of July 10, 2021. An additional 167 million yen and 102 thousand tickets were added to the tally. Khara also revealed that most theaters in Japan will cease screening the movie on July 21, 2021.
The final movie in the Rebuild of Evangelion series is continuing to break records all over the place. Within two months since the Japanese release, it became Hideaki Anno’s most grossing movie after surpassing Shin Godzilla, which grossed 8.25 billion yen in total. At a stage greeting held in April 2021, the director expressed his wish to see Evangelion 3.0+1.0 reach 10 billion yen in the box office. There is still around a week remaining for the movie to surpass that expectation.
Evangelion 3.0+1.0: Thrice Upon a Time is currently available in Japanese theaters, although most venues will take it down on July 21, 2021. The rest of the world will be able to stream the movie through Amazon Prime Video on August 13, 2021.
