Etrian Mystery Dungeon has the best of both worlds from the Mystery Dungeon series’ roguelike features with a class and skill system seen in the Etrian Odyssey games. Famitsu recently shared a look at some gameplay footage, where show what it’s like to explore a bit in the game.

The video starts out by demonstrating Etrian Mystery Dungeon’s randomly-generated maps, which change a dungeon’s areas and surroundings each time you go in. While you’ll see similar monsters in there, you’ll need to always stay on your toes, as there can be different surprises.

Your party setup will also be a crucial factor in exploring these dungeons, as shown at the 1:35 mark of the video, where the lead Furai character takes an attack from a distance, but his mates were able to back him up with long-ranged attacks of their own.

Since the player knows that there are long-ranged attackers out there, he switches up his party, so that a ranged attacker can get the first hit on their encounter for the next area.

The Furai takes the lead again for the next floor, as they carefully progress their way through the labyrinth, and to the next floor. After exiting the place, they go back to the Adventurer’s Guild in town, where you can see some of the available job classes. This is also where you set up your party.

At the 5:30 mark of the video, it shows how you can not only enhance your characters as you play through Etrian Mystery Dungeon, but you’ll also get to help in the growth of the town. Doing so will provide you with different benefits, which will help you along the way.

Etrian Mystery Dungeon will release in North America on April 7, 2015 for the Nintendo 3DS.
