Disney officially announced the Nintendo 3DS Epic Mickey game today, titled Disney Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion. As previously reported, the game is something of a tribute to the Sega Genesis game, Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse, and has you playing through the Castle of Illusion once again.
The Castle of Illusion has fallen into Wasteland—a world filled with forgotten Disney attractions—which is now home to forgotten videogames as well. Mizrabel, the witch from Castle of Illusion is trapped in Wasteland and is trying to drain the power of the Toons to execute her escape plan from the world. Brush in hand, Mickey sets out to save the Toons from Mizrabel.
In Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion, you draw rough shapes of objects using the stylus on the Nintendo 3DS’ lower screen, which are converted into Disney-style 2D illustrations. These then go on to take shape as solid 3D objects on the upper screen and help you solve puzzles and progress through the game.
In their original reveal of Power of Illusion, Nintendo Power magazine said that how well you draw objects will result in different effects on them as well, but Disney haven’t made any mention of this themselves so far.
Disney Epic Mickey: The Power of Illusion will be released this fall.
