E.X. Troopers is another of the games that Capcom brought to the Tokyo Game Show this year, and they’ve released a new trailer for it that shows off combat and event cutscenes, which you can watch below:
E.X. Troopers’ mission structure makes it sound a lot like Monster Hunter. You can eat at a cafeteria for a status boost, complete missions, and use materials to remodel and upgrade your weapons. However, the game also has a few things in common with Lost Planet, such as Akrids and Vital Suits, which isn’t surprising, considering that it’s a spin-off of the Lost Planet series.
Speaking with Siliconera, Lost Planet executive producer, Kenji Ohguro, revealed that Capcom wanted to make a “party shooter” kind of game set in the Lost Planet world. This was something they tried to do with Lost Planet 2, but felt that it didn’t quite fit with the series’ narrative strengths. Thus, E.X. Troopers was born.
E.X. Troopers will be released on the PlayStation 3 and Nintendo 3DS on November 22nd. While the 3DS version will be limited to local multiplayer, the PlayStation 3 version will have online play.
