Koei Tecmo published a new trailer for Dynasty Warriors 9: Empires, also known in Japan and Asia as Shin Sangoku Musou 8: Empires. It also released a demo version of the game on Japanese console storefronts, as it had previously teased in November 2021.
The new trailer shows more gameplay snippets and cutscenes that place a customized character as the main star. It implies that the player will be able to do many activities in the game, such as forming a mercenary band or establishing their own full-fledged faction.

The demo shows that the PlayStation and Xbox releases of Dynasty Warriors 9: Empires will let the player choose between a high-framerate Action Mode and a resolution-focused Cinematic Mode. It also contains notes hinting at more features that will be available in the full game.
For example, the player can still access and customize Hideaways in the open-world Strolling Mode. The game will also have an optional setting to activate permadeath in a playthrough. When the player finishes a playthrough with a spouse, the game will generate a child character who inherits parameters from both parents.
The full version of Dynasty Warriors 9: Empires will be available in Japan and Asia on December 23, 2021, and North America and Europe on February 15, 2022. It will appear on PCs in addition to the PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. Koei Tecmo will add more customization content to the game via post-release DLC.
