Koei Tecmo Games published more screenshots for Dynasty Warriors 9: Empires after its initial reveal at Tokyo Game Show 2020 Online. These new screenshots give people a sneak peek at the overhauled character creation system.
As we have learned from a prior Japanese interview, Dynasty Warriors series Producer Akihiro Suzuki hinted that DW9: Empires‘ character edit system will be based on Nioh 2, but improved even further from that. Other than the face and body shape, you will also be able to edit the outfit in even more detail.
Looking at the screenshots we have so far, it appears like the character’s outfit will be mainly split into inner clothing and outer armor, with the latter overlaying the former.
The outer armor scheme looks similar to costume parts in prior Empires games, such as head armor, chest armor, and so on. As for the inner clothing, you will be able to make a combination from any available upper and lower clothing separately.
A new aspect seen in the character creation screen is that you are able to select a different material for each armor part, as well as a different pattern on the inner clothing. You can also set even more vibrant colors with the RGB system that has replaced preset palettes. The multiple layers on the color box may suggest that you can modify even more colors on the detailed parts.
The press release also teased that the domestic system will be expanded even further. Character relationships are said to change more frequently and have even greater effects on the gameplay than before.
Some of the existing features from prior Empires games are also slated to return. For example, the Ways of Life determine whether your character is a good ruler or an evil tyrant. Many different Positions will also be available, where you can start as a wandering Free Officer, a loyal Marshal, or the leading Ruler.
Dynasty Warriors 9: Empires will be available on the PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC in early 2021.
