Square Enix’s Dragon Quest X is getting a manga spin-off in the form of a romantic comedy. It’s all about what happens when a handsome young man and a beautiful young woman meet for the first time and fall in love.

And yes, it’s got Dragon Quest X in its setting. You can read the first chapter, which sets it all up (and is hilariously adorable) in Japanese at this link.

Titled “It Was Fun Last Night,” the spin-off is going to run in Young GanGan magazine and follows two players who’ve decided to finally meet up in real life after playing tons of Dragon Quest X together. The two characters in question are Powder and Goro.

Problem: Goro the warrior thinks she’s meeting another woman in Powder the cute Puklipo. Yes, Goro, the armored up warrior tank is the lady in the above picture.

If you’re wondering what’s going on and don’t really play MMORPGs, here’s the lowdown. Online games these days match up strangers, and sometimes, they’ll chat and form longer bonds. This is especially prevalent in MMORPG’s, though it can also happen in other games like FPS shooters.  Some of these people eventually meet up in real life. Happens all the time.

Of course, there are plenty of people impersonating someone from the opposite sex all the time. There’s thus the real danger of meeting someone who’s got trouble on their minds or ends up being the clichéd 40 year old unwashed crazy. In the case of “It Was Fun Last Night,” though, we’re settling in for a romantic comedy full of cute and pretty.
