Dragon Quest Monsters: Terry’s Wonderland 3D Could Have Sold Even More

Dragon Quest Monsters: Terry’s Wonderland 3D sold 513,000 copies when it was released in Japan last week. Here’s how that stacks up against the Dragon Quest Monsters games on the Nintendo DS:

(2006) Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker – 593,994

(2010) Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2 – 623,643

Terry’s Wonderland 3D didn’t outsell either of the two Nintendo DS games at launch, but it may have come closer had Square Enix shipped more copies of the game. A report from sales tracker, Media Create, reveals that Terry’s Wonderland 3D sold through 93.96% of its shipment and was sold out at several stores on the day of its release.

Perhaps Square Enix were slightly more conservative with Terry’s Wonderland 3D’s shipment because of Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2. While that game sold 623,643 copies in its launch week in 2010, that number only represented 66.8% of its initial shipment.

Meanwhile, Level 5’s four-game compilation, Guild 01, which moved 14,790 copies during launch week only sold through 53.16% of its stock. Media Create chalk that up to low awareness of the game among consumers, as indicated by their awareness surveys.
