Many Dragon Ball games have been released since the launch of the Nintendo Switch. Most skipped the popular console at launch in favor of more powerful hardware, but they eventually made their way to the handheld platform. With Dragon Ball Z Sparking! ZERO not launching on Nintendo Switch, here are some alternatives to play instead.
5. Dragon Ball Fighterz
Bandai Namco released Dragon Ball Fighterz on September 28, 2018, in collaboration with Arc System Works. This 2.5D tag team fighter takes the beautiful stylizations of Arc System Works’ games like Guilty Gear Strive and plasters them on the Dragon Ball I.P. Experience Goku defeating Frieza or the Father-son Kamehameha evaporating Cell in a system called Dramatic Finish. The Nintendo Switch has an exclusive offline mode compared to its Xbox, PlayStation, and PC counterparts.
You can gather up to six players to fight it out in the Dragon Ball Fighterz gameplay on teams of three. It pains me to put this last on the list, as it’s my favorite Dragon Ball game in the last decade. However, due to its online mode not being the best, it is hard to recommend Dragon Fighterz over the other titles. If laggy online matches don’t bother you, then pick this game up. It would be number one on this list otherwise. You can pick up Dragon Ball Fighterz on Nintendo Switch for $59.99.
4. Dragon Ball: The Breakers
Similar to Dead by Daylight, Dragon Ball: The Breakers is about survival. Reliving some version of the Dragon Ball story while playing as Goku isn’t the goal in this game. Instead, you are one of seven civilians thrust into a dimension as you try to escape the perils of iconic Dragon Ball antagonists.
The graphics of this game is slightly worse than those of DBFZ, Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, but it makes up for it by being a unique angle on a Dragon Ball game. You can buy Dragon Ball: The Breakers on Nintendo Switch for $19.99.
3. Super Dragon Ball Heroes World Mission
A console exclusive for the Nintendo Switch, Super Dragon Ball Heroes World Mission reimagines what some would consider traditional Dragon Ball gameplay (brawler/fighting game) into a card game. Create your own avatar in this alternate version of Dragon Ball and come up with the best strategy to win.
Super Dragon Ball Heroes World Mission has over 1000 cards to choose from and 350 characters. You can create your own cards and missions as you go through the story. Super Dragon Ball Heroes World Mission is available on Nintendo Switch for $59.99.
2. Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot
Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is the title to buy if you want a retelling of the Dragon Ball Z story. Unlike the other games on this list, Kakarot lets players explore open zones from the Dragon Ball world. You can visit Bulma’s home in West City while flying around the world.
Watch breathtaking cutscenes of your favorite moments from Dragon Ball Z. CyberConnect2 morphs their expertise on the Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm titles into a single-player RPG for anyone. Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot can be picked up for $59.99 on the Nintendo Switch eShop.
1. Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2
Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 is an interesting title in that it is one of the longest-supported titles for a Dragon Ball game. It is still getting updates and new characters such as Beast Gohan and Orange Piccolo from Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero. Create your character and fly around Conton City as a member of the Time Patrol. Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2’s revolves around correcting the Dragon Ball timeline after it has been tampered with by original villains, Mira and Towa.
With your created character, train under iconic characters from Dragon Ball to equip yourself for battles. Participate in raid battles or co-op missions with friends. Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 for Nintendo Switch is the best game to play if you want to role-play as yourself in Dragon Ball. Even better yet, 1. Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 can be picked up for as low as $19.99 on Nintendo Switch.
