DOOM Eternal Switch Physical Release Canceled

There’s some, well, doom and gloom news for the DOOM Eternal Switch release. People will only have one option when getting a copy. Instead of being available both digitally and physically, like the 2016 reboot that showed up on the system in 2017, it will be an eShop exclusive. There will be no physical release. [Thanks, IGN!]

IGN learned about the shift directly from Bethesda, following concerns raised by people after GameStop allegedly heard about the cancellation and was contacting customers. It was then that people turned to the Bethesda Support Twitter account for answers. Initially, on November 19, 2020, the company said there were no announcements and people should watch “official Twitter channels” and its site for news. It was only later that Bethesda told IGN there would be no DOOM Eternal Switch physical copies.

While DOOM Eternal is 100% on track for an imminent digital-only release on Nintendo Switch, the absence of a physical release at retail resulted in cancelled pre-orders

Affected customers will receive full refunds and should contact their preferred retailer for more information.

DOOM Eternal is immediately available on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Google Stadia. The Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X versions are still on the way, though you’ll only see digital DOOM Eternal Switch copies via the eShop.
