Flick is super excited about all the contracts, while Blathers is probably preparing to barricade himself in the museum. That’s right, people. It is Animal Crossing Bug-Off season. For those with islands in the Northern Hemisphere (who haven’t time traveled), June 27, 2020 will mark the first Animal Crossing: New Horizons Bug-Off.
Nintendo reminded people about the event on Twitter, via “Tom Nook.” You’ll be able to take part in an Animal Crossing Bug-Off with Flick over the summer months, with four total ahead of us. Each one happens on the fourth Saturday of the month, so there will be one on June 27th, July 25th, August 22nd, and September 26th.
Animal Crossing Bug-Offs work similarly to the Fishing Tourneys, which are run by Flick’s partner, CJ. You speak to Flick, pay a 500 bell fee, then try to catch as many bugs as you can in a three minute period. Quality of bugs doesn’t matter, as it is all about quantity. (If others are on your island, there is no entry fee and you get bonus points for your catches.) Based on the points you earn, Flick will give you bug-related clothing and furniture items and, if you hit the 100, 200, and 300 point levels, trophies.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available for the Nintendo Switch. Summer Shell recipes are now available in-game, and an update that adds new NPCs and swimming will arrive in July 2020.
