Aquaplus announced a new collaboration title between the Dokapon and Utawarerumono series titled Dokapon UP! Roulette of Dreams (Mugen no Roulette) for PS4 and Switch. The title announcement comes from this week’s issue of Famitsu magazine. The game also already has a release date of December 10, 2020, in Japan.
The Dokapon series isn’t as known these days, but it’s had a few titles localized in the West. The series started with Kessen! Dokapon Oukoku IV: Densetsu no Yuusha Tachi which released for the Super Famicom in Japan in December 1993. The original game was remade as Dokapon Journey which released for the Nintendo DS in Japan in July 2008 and North America in April 2009. The game before that, Dokapon Kingdom, released for the PS2 in Japan in 2007 and in North America in October 2008. The series as a whole has sold about 900,000 units.
Dokapon is known for its hybrid boardgame and RPG style gameplay. The series has seen various gameplay modes, but they all mostly revolve around rolling numbers or spinning a wheel from 0 to 6. The Famitsu preview doesn’t go into many details, but it reveals that the Dokapon crossover game is set in the world of Utawarerumono. That means we’ll see many familiar faces, like Haku, Kuon, Hakuoro, Eruruu, and more.
Dokapon UP! Roulette of Dreams will release in Japan for the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch on December 10, 2020.
