While this is a common feature in many competitive games nowadays, its use here in Modern Warfare 3 has been criticized by some. This is due to how quickly it can throw players into hot water if they do too well, while providing little incentive for being at a higher skill tier. Additionally, players have criticized the practice for how easily elite players could get into the lobbies of rookie players. As such, the presence of SBMM in Modern Warfare 3 could be considered a controversial points in the game. Some criticized the game for being unable to remove it.
What is skill-based matchmaking?
Skill-based matchmaking decides which players fight against others. As the name suggests, it calculates your skill as a player and pits you against your equals. This system takes into consideration your kill-death ratio, aim, and win rate. Of course, games use other metrics to calculate skill as well.
