Yes, immediately after going through Clive’s story in Final Fantasy XVI, you can jump back in again into a new game plus file. A number of additional modes and features open up once you do. All of them tend to involve pushing yourself further, to show you’re able to master his combos and properly use Eikonic Abilities.

How do I unlock new game plus in Final Fantasy XVI?

Beat the game. If you’re rushing and not trying to do every sidequest, you should be done in around 40 hours. After the credits finish and you see the extra cutscene, you’ll unlock Final Fantasy Mode. Should you go into a new game plus file, you keep your Eikonic Abilities, acquired gear, and Clive’s level.

How does Final Fantasy Mode work in Final Fantasy XVI?

I like to think of it as a new difficulty option. You select it at the start of the run, and it makes things more difficult by adding stronger, different monsters in areas and on quests, while also changing up Arcade Mode and Chronolith Trials. In Arcade Mode, you can choose Ultramaniac difficulty. This is a new difficulty with, you guessed it, stronger fights. In Chronolith Trials, it’s essentially pulling from those new encounters in the main game to make those stronger.

To be fair, in the main Final Fantasy Mode in Final Fantasy XVI, you will have access to stronger gear. You just need to work for it. For example, you can only get Ultima Weapon for Clive here.

It’s also in this mode that you’ll gain access to Leaderboards at the Arete Stone in the Hideaway. You can only earn scores if you’re in this mode. When you take on a challenge in either Arcade Mode or Ultimaniac or any Chronolith Trials, that score will be recorded. However, equipping Timely accessories will count against your overall score.

Final Fantasy XVI is available for the PlayStation 5. There is a six-month exclusivity period.
