Nippon Ichi Software has revealed that sales for the Disgaea series have reached 5 million units worldwide. This includes both digital and physical sales. The information came through the official Nippon Ichi Software Twitter account, accompanied by an announcement that several Disgaea titles will be on sale for a limited time. However, this is currently exclusive to Japanese storefronts.

The most recent Disgaea title, Disgaea 6: Defiance of Destiny, released exclusively to the Nintendo Switch in North America and Europe, with Japan also receiving a PlayStation 4 release. Disgaea 6 features several new quality of life features, including an intricate A.I. system that allows for players to program how their characters will function in combat. There is currently no indication that the title will see a PlayStation 4 release outside of Japan.

In January 2017, it was reported that the stock value for Nippon Ichi Software fell after a port of Disgaea 5: Alliance of Vengeance was announced for the Nintendo Switch. The stock fell sharply due to investor concern that the title would not perform well on the system. This was due to various reasons. However, roughly a year after the Nintendo Switch release of Disgaea 5, NIS America then made the title available on PC in 2018.
