In celebration of the Disgaea series reaching 5 million sales worldwide, NIS America opened up a special celebration website highlighting upcoming live stream events, retweet campaigns, polls, and discounts for all Disgaea games on Steam. In a video message to fans, NIS President Sohei Niikawa teased some details about Disgaea 7 development.
In August 2021, NIS announced that the Disgaea series sold 5 million units worldwide through its official Twitter account. While the company celebrated with a sale, it was limited to Japanese storefronts. NIS America is now running its own discounted sale on Steam until September 17, 2021, with the original Disgaea at 85% off. The sale will also be available on the NIS Online Store, where a similar discount is running for Disgaea merchandise as well.
Furthermore, NIS America is also hosting a character popularity poll where fans can pick up to five characters. Niikawa stated that the poll will help the team figure out which characters to include in future DLC and who should make “special appearances in future titles.” In the same video, Niikawa also hinted at plans to create what could end up being Disgaea 7 or the next general Disgaea game, though he also said that he could not talk about “when that may be or what it’s going to be like.” However, Niikawa expressed intentions to take into account user feedback from the series’ most recent release, Disgaea 6.

Finally, the company is planning a Disgaea Twitch stream on September 15, 2021, starting 4pm PT/7pm ET. From September 6-10, 2021, the NIS America official Twitter account is also holding a retweet campaign where participants will have a chance to win a signed print from Disgaea artist Takehito Harada and Disgaea 6 merchandise.
Disgaea 6, the most recent entry, is available on the Switch worldwide and PS4 in Japan.
