Kojima Productions has revealed more information about cross-saves for Death Stranding Director’s Cut, as well as an upgrade plan for owners of the PS4 version of the game. The info comes from a PlayStation blog post authored by Jay Boor, Head of Publishing at Kojima Productions.
Timed for the release of a new trailer during the July 8, 2021 State of Play stream, the post notes that Death Stranding Director’s Cut will support cross-save between PS4 and PS5. Owners of the PS4 version Death Stranding will be able to transfer their saves over when Director’s Cut releases in September 2021. They’ll continue their journey to reconnect America from “relatively in the same area as they left off.” For players with saves in progress or starting fresh, the new content is woven into the game’s progression and will be unlocked as they through the story. Players who’ve finished the game can jump straight into the new content.
The upgraded game will also support some of the PS5’s unique hardware features. These include 3D audio, the Dualsense controller’s haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, improved load times, and two graphical modes. The graphical modes are a “Performance Mode” with upscaled 4K resolution and up to 60FPS frame rate, or a “Fidelity Mode” running in native 4K, supporting both ultra-wide and HDR monitors and TVs.
Existing owners will also benefit from a relatively inexpensive upgrade path to obtain Death Stranding Director’s Cut. Upon release, players will be able to purchase the PS5 Digital Deluxe Edition Upgrade for USD $10. This pricing applies universally to all players who own any PS4 edition of the game. The only exception will be owners of the PS4 disc version of the original game who then moved on to a Digital Edition PS5. The PS4 disc will still need to be inserted into the console in order to play the PS5 upgraded version. Since the Digital Edition PS5 doesn’t have a disc drive, that won’t be possible.
According to the PSN store page, the Death Stranding Director’s Cut Digital Deluxe Edition will have a regular, non-upgrade price of $59.99 (the standard edition will cost $49.99). The Digital Deluxe Edition will include the following items alongside the full game and the added content:
- Digital mini art book and mini soundtrack PS5 app
- Avatar set
- New in-game suit-colors (gold and silver)
- New in-game power glove colors (gold and silver)
- BB pod customization options (gold and silver)
- Additional in-game backpack patches.
Death Standing Director’s Cut will release for the PlayStation 5 on September 24, 2021. The original cut is immediately available on PS4 and PC.
