Well, it didn’t take too long for Compile Heart’s latest tease to be revealed. A Death end re;Quest Switch port will appear in Japan, and it will show up faster than people might expect. The eShop listing is live and says it will show up on December 24, 2020 for 4,800円 (~$46), though a temporarily 20% launch discount does knock the price down to 3,800円 (~$37). It looks like people will be avoiding bad ends this holiday season. [Thanks, Nintendo Everything!]

Death end re;Quest actually follows two people at the same time. One half of the gameplay involves guiding Shina through a typical JRPG fantasy game. However, it is actually a VR MMORPG called World’s Odyssey that was shut down, with her still trapped inside. Arata, her coworker in the real world, suddenly gets an email that she’s still alive and stuck there. His portions play out as a visual novel as you find out the truth about the project. It’s known for being extremely dark, as it is very easy to make decisions that result in characters dying and the game ending.

In addition to the product page, a Death end re;Quest Switch trailer was spotted by Gematsuand is available online.
