What are sandstorms in My Time at Sandrock?

When a sandstorm hits, it brings some gameplay changes with it. Players will be unable to move freely, and visibility is severely hindered. Also, Most NPCs in Sandrock choose to stay indoors during sandstorms. Materials left unattended at crafting stations can also blow away during sandstorms.

If you see the “Some items have blown away” message, then unfortunately, that means you have lost something. So avoid leaving materials outside for extended periods during a sandstorm, and try to collect them ASAP when the weather event hits.

A scripted sandstorm occurs after the “Picking Up the Slack” quest, which is the player’s tutorial on the sandstorm mechanic.

Without proper protection, the player can’t really move during sandstorms. Equipping either a sandgear or a sand hat can remedy this. Thankfully, the player receives a free sand hat from Pen during the first story-mandated sandstorm.

You can craft better sand gear and sand hats later in the game, though they really aren’t useful outside of allowing you to move unencumbered during sandstorms. However, you should keep one handy at all times in case you have some pressing matters during a storm.

The day after a sandstorm passes, sand will cover the machines in your workshop. This hinders their performance, so you’ll need to clean them up. Luckily, a feather duster is all you need to clean your workshop quickly. You can get the feather duster recipe from the Commerce Guild Shop if you don’t already have it.

Surviving sandstorms in My Time at Sandrock requires the right equipment. However, most of the time, the easiest solution is to just stay inside! Gather whatever materials you may have sitting outside, and then go back to sleep until it passes.
