To compensate for the trouble he stirred up, the boy is made part of the Bureau for the Investigation of Special Affairs, who are in charge of dealing with the supernatural troubles that arise from the Academy’s supply of Mists (magical objects) that are kept sealed in a treasury beneath the library. Despite being locked away, these objects have a tendency to appear before people in need of power, often causing trouble for the Bureau and the untrained user who takes on their magics.

Players will carry out their investigations across two dimensions, as the school is connected to two different worlds. A day class takes classes during sunlit hours, but are quickly (and sometimes forcefully) sent back to their dorms before night falls, when the building shifts dimensions to allow the people of the Realm of Night to attend their lessons.
