Cyberpunk Thriller Technobabylon Gets Its First Teaser

Adventure game publisher and creator of the Blackwell series Wadjet Eye Games has teamed up with indie developer James Dearden to create a commercial revamp of his freeware cyberpunk point-and-click adventure game Technobabylon.

It takes place in the dystopian cyberpunk future of 2087. It’s a pretty generic take on the cyberpunk genre. So, yep, genetic engineering is the norm, there’s an addictive substance called Trance negating the need for human interaction, and an omnipresent AI called Central powers the city while its all-seeing CEL police keeps everyone in line.

Technobabylon follows three main characters who are, apparently, about to “meet their maker” – that’s either referring to their unfortunate deaths, or it may perhaps imply that they’re synthetic and not human. We’ll have to wait and see. The first character being teased in the short video above is Charlie Regis. He works for the city’s secret police but finds himself being blackmailed with the lives of his unborn children.

In the future, the other two characters will also be introduced through videos. But we can tell you right now that one of them is Latha Sesame, who is without a job and completely addicted to Trance, and has become a target for assassination. While the third character is Max Lao, a tech-savvy officer who finds herself torn between her feelings and the law when asked to apprehend her best friend.

You can find out more about Technobablyon on its website. It will be coming to Windows, Mac, and Linux in the spring 2015.
