Among the many breaking January 16, 2020 news stories is the one that Cyberpunk 2077 has been delayed. CD Projekt Red confirmed it will no longer have the open-world adventure out on April 16, 2020. Instead, it has been pushed back five months to September 17, 2020.
CD Projekt Red Co-Founder Marcin Iwinski and Head of Studio Adam Badowski announced the delay and made a statement on Twitter. While someone could play it, the company feels that the game needs more “playtesting, fixing, and polishing” time. The additional months will help ensure its quality.

We have important news regarding Cyberpunk 2077’s release date we’d like to share with you today.
Cyberpunk 2077 won’t make the April release window and we’re moving the launch date to September 17, 2020.
We are currently at a stage where the game is complete and playable, but there’s still work to be done. Night City is massive—full of stories, content, and places to visit, but due to the sheer scale and complexity of it all, we need more time to finish playtesting, fixing, and polishing. We want Cyberpunk 2077 to be our crowning achievement for this generation and postponing [its] launch will give us the precious months we need to make the game perfect.
Expect more regular updates on progress as we get closer to the new release date.

Cyberpunk 2077 work first began back in May 2012, when the company revealed it. There have been teasers over the years, with E3 2018, gamescom 2018, and E3 2019 moments sharing better looks at the game.
Cyberpunk 2077 will launch on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on September 17, 2020.
