CyberConnect2 president and CEO Hiroshi Matsuyama discussed their new Montreal studio in an interview with Famitsu, and he also spoke about a new shooting action game they’re working on, called Venom. [Thanks, Hachima.]

About the plans he has in his hands at the moment.

Hiroshi Matsuyama: “It’s a new game. We have the tentative title of ‘CyberConnect Creative (CCC)’ within the company for it. It’s been 20 years since the founding of the company, and it’s CyberConnect2’s very first self-published project. It’s a completely original title.”

Characteristics about this title?

“For better or worse, these past 20 years of CyberConnect2 has been about ‘Hiroshi Matusyama-san.’ This time around, I’ve put my heart and soul into the production, without having done any of the direction myself.”

“Not only one title, but several titles are in the works that we plan to continue and link the deliveries that we have planned for the world. There are no details for now, but the supported platforms are PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Steam. We haven’t decided on whether it’ll be exclusive to downloads, but I believe that the key to victory is about download sales.”

With it being a development for a worldwide release, does it mean it’ll be a big title?

“It won’t be an open-world game that you’d get from a major title of a big industry. In the past, there were many games that ingrained in your mind or sharp RPGs, and that’s the essence we’re going with, while thinking about shaping it up using the latest technology.

We get a Ghibli-esque vibe from the image board.

There are parts with the feelings of Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind. The genre is shooting action, but I can’t go into detail for now.”

“The title that we’ve introduced today is a project with the code name ‘Venom.’ We plan on releasing it next year.”
