Will there be a season 2 of Kill la Kill?

After the success of Gurren Lagann, Director Hiroyuki Imaishi parted ways with renowned animation studio Gainax to form Studio Trigger in 2011. The developer focused on short films and episodic shows that were released on YouTube like Inferno Cop. However, October 2013 was a milestone for the budding studio.

One of its first official projects was Kill la Kill, which aired from October 2013 to March 2014. This breakout hit took the hearts of many anime fans around the world. Gorgeous animation, comedic moments, and bombastic action scenes swarmed television screens with enough intensity to make anyone fall in love.

Kill la Kill follows protagonist Ryuki Matoi as she enrolls in Honnouji Academy to find her father’s murderer. Equipped with a longsword shaped like half of a pair of scissors, Ryuki fights the Elite Four and their leader Satsuki Kiryuin. Ryuki’s story spanned 24 episodes and an OVA. So Studio Trigger completed the Kill la Kill story.

Studio Trigger went on to all but confirm that there will be no season 2 of Kill la Kill. Since 2014, Studio Trigger instead went on to make more hits, such as Promare and the critically acclaimed Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime in partnership with Netflix and CDProjekt. Studio Trigger more recently adapted the manga, Delicious in Dungeon, with a second season of it in development.

However, Studio Trigger has revived series before. At Anime Expo 2023, it unveiled it acquired the rights Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt. The studio announced a new run of it. You can watch the announcement trailer below:

Kill la Kill is streaming on Crunchyroll. Udon Entertainment handled the manga outside Japan. The game Kill la Kill IF is on the PS4, Switch, and PC.
